My Learning Object

Hey class!
Let's have some fun! On the voki website we have the chance to create our very own avatars. Click the following video so view your instructions for this task. Once you have watched the video, be sure to double check you have completed all the requirements and submit (see Avatar Checklist below).

You will need to create your own account on Voki!
Use your school e-mail account
Password: Muehmer2015
To Submit: Embed your Voki avatar in an e-mail. We will do this together as a class.

Hello parents!
Don't worry, we are always trying to keep you in the loop! Right now in language we are working on writing our own adventure stories and developing our own characters. During this creative process, technology has become our best friend! We have been working on creating Facebook pages for our character and even their own twitter handle.
We are "Creating Media Texts" found in the curriculum documents in the Media Literacy Section. Expectation 3.2 focuses on having students identify an appropriate "form to suit the specific purpose and audience for a media text they plan to create" (p.134).
Thank you for checking the website regularly!

  1. This is the coolest!! There are so many different uses for this, from curricular expectations to just presenting assignments and homework in a more engaging way. Great find.

  2. Far-out!! Wicked Learning Object! I think that your Learning Object would be very effective in the classroom for a number of reasons. First, the avatar is most likely a new medium for students to learn from that they have not experienced in the past. Second, by having the students creating their own avatar, it encourages them to be creative and provides them a new outlet to express their ideas. Third, by embedding the Google Forum, you allow students to be accountable for their own learning. I like the use of a self-checklist. Lastly, your Learning Object is an appropriate match to the curriculum expectation because the avatar assignment has students creating a piece of media for a specific purpose and audience.

  3. I love the avatar giving the instruction on how to navigate to the activity. I find this to be an excellent way to engage students at any level because it is something new rather than teacher after teacher presenting in person. I really enjoyed this learning object as it provides a variety of ways of use in all subjects across the board, which demonstrates the flexibility with using this type of technology. Great work and thanks for sharing!
